Did you know that July 1, 2016 is the start date for the new vaccine law?
Did you know that whenever your child begins school again, they will be checked for all their vaccinations? That means all the shots that are on the required list on the vaccine law. If you are a parent who is getting the vaccines for your child, but at a slower rate than multiple shots, you will need to get permission from your school to be on a conditional schedule. There are to date, 40 or so vaccines necessary to attend a public school. There is also a clause in the bill, SB277, that states that any vaccine can be added to the lineup at anytime.
Did you know that if you had a Personal Belief Statement at your school office, that you will be grandfathered in to the new law. What does that mean? It means that your child's vaccine schedule will only be viewed at the main checkpoints stated in the bill. The checkpoints are
TK/Kindergarten and 7th grade. To many parents upset, this form had to be put in by December 31st, 2015.
Okay, so if you are a parent who chooses NOT to have your child receive all of the vaccinations called for, these are some of your options.
1) Your child can be in a private home based school. (Homeschooled)
2) Your child can be in an independent study program, (not receiving
classroom based instruction). Some classroom instruction, less than 80% is allowable. Charter schools have some class based classes and these are acceptable.
3) If your child has an IEP, (Individual Education Program), access to special education and related services cannot be denied.
(4) Your child can be exempted from vaccines, if a medical doctor deems that there is eminent danger to your child. An example of this may be autism in the family, or a medical condition which already compromises the child.
The point of this article is too inform and educate. Please do read SB277 for yourself. If you need more clarification, The Homeschooling Network has some good information on their website. Be informed. There are some choices.
If you decide on homeschooling as your option, I have written a few short BLOGS on that. They can be found on my website, in MY BLOGS.
